Estimate the height of the cloud base (Cumulus) from temperature and dew point.
This tool estimates the height of the base of cumulus clouds formed by surface heating, where the rising air cools to its dew point.
Base (ft AGL) ≈ (Temperature - Dew Point) × 400. This is based on the dry adiabatic lapse rate of 3°C/1000ft and dew point lapse rate of 0.5°C/1000ft convergence.
This formula is an approximation for convective clouds (cumulus) and may not be accurate for frontal systems or in stable atmospheric conditions. Always check official METAR/TAF.
